HOW DOES IT WORK?

Removes toxic biological wastes, sludge and decaying materials

BENEKOI® contains five types of microorganisms that produce special enzymes that work on a variety of fish and decomposing plant waste materials. 

• Lipase- Breaks down fats and oily wastes that other nitrifying bacteria fail to digest. Fatty waste products are commonly seen as an oily film on the surface of the water.
• Protease- Breaks down large protein materials allowing other enzymes to work more efficiently.
• Amylase- Digests starch. Starch is common in decaying plant material.
• Ligninase- Breaks down lignin. Lignin gives wood its stiffness and one of nature’s toughest materials to break down.
• Cellulase- Breaks down cellulose materials like leaves and twigs.   
• Pectinase- Breaks down pectin - a component of rotting plant material.
• Keratinase- Digests a protein found in feathers, wool and hair.

BENEKOI® speeds up the nitrification process by seeding new ponds and new filters with beneficial microorganisms that break down the toxic byproducts of fish waste. Water quality problems support the quick growth of harmful bacteria in the pond or aquarium. Some of these harmful bacteria cause ulcers by sticking to the slime coat and begin eating into the flesh of the fish.
